East 6th Street
East 6th (the section east of I-35) has grown into Austin's craft cocktail destination — a stretch of independently-owned bars that take their drinks seriously without taking themselves too seriously. Nickel City (recently relocated but still excellent), Kitty Cohen's for the pool and the slushy drinks, EP & LP for rooftop views, and a dozen other excellent spots. Significantly less crowded than 6th Street proper, with more character and consistently better cocktails.
Sixth Street (The Entertainment District)
The famous 6th Street Entertainment District is Austin's most iconic nightlife corridor — packed on weekends, loud, alive with live music from multiple venues simultaneously, and genuinely fun if you approach it with the right energy. This is where you go to feel Austin's live music identity at its rawest. Stubb's Amphitheatre just off 6th hosts major shows. The parking and transportation situation on peak nights requires either a plan or a very high tolerance for circling blocks. We recommend the former.

- Live music or bar-hopping (9:30pm+): East 6th for craft cocktails or 6th Street for the full Austin live music experience. Your driver moves with you between stops.
